Alabama State University student and Alabaster native Adam Dowdell, 22, will be laid to rest Saturday, Sept. 26.

Dowdell was last seen Sept. 8 when he left his dorm room to go to an ATM. He was found dead six days later less than a quarter mile from campus. He had been shot, according to Montgomery Police Department.

His funeral service will be held at the Calera High School football field in Calera, Ala., starting at 12 p.m. The service is open to the public, Dowdell’s mom, Toya Cohill, said.

Dowdell was in his second year at ASU after transferring from East Mississippi Community College. He was an aspiring special education teacher, Cohill said. He was also a middle child, an uncle and a multi-sport athlete. He graduated from Montevallo High, where he’d played on the baseball, basketball and football teams, in addition to running track.

Another ASU student has been charged in his killing. Ivry Hall, 20, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Friday on the charge of murder. Hall’s bond was set at $250,000.

Following Hall’s arrest, ASU President Quinton Ross issued a statement.

“Today, the Montgomery Police Department announced an arrest in the death of Adam Dowdell. The suspect is also an ASU student,” the statement read.
